Pedestrian counters will be responsible for counting pedestrian and cyclist traffic at specific locations throughout Downtown Regina.  They will be provided with a hand held counter and tally sheets.  An orientation session will take place the day of the count to ensure all counters are briefed properly.  Pedestrian counters will be paid immediately upon completion of their shift with a completed tally sheet.  All training will be provided.

Benefits of Pedestrian Counts:

Pedestrian flow is an indicator of the vitality of downtown as the majority of storefronts rely on pedestrian traffic.  For this reason the value of any given storefront can be measured, in part, by the amount of people who pass by its doors each day.

Regina Downtown is interested in obtaining downtown pedestrian numbers to demonstrate why it is an ideal location to do business.  The data collected will indicate not only the numbers of pedestrians but the volumes in any given area.  It will allow us to determine where measures are needed to increase pedestrian traffic and where pedestrian amenities should be placed or require upgrading. Pedestrian counts will also help to establish the level of traffic before and after development.  The counts will serve as an indicator of the progress being made downtown and a guide for future decisions.
