COMING TO DOWNTOWN REGINA IN 2025
The Skuare
What is The Skuare?
The Skuare is an innovative, temporary use of the former Gordon Block in the centre of Downtown
Regina. The project will:
• Activate a core downtown space
• Create outdoor event space
• Create cost-effective ground floor retail/food and beverage outlets for start-up businesses
• Provide much needed storage space for RDBID assets
Located on the former Gordon Block and Burns Hanley sites, The Skuare will be the first of it’s kind in Saskatchewan. This 11,000SF site will host a beer garden, additional retail and food/beverage units, space for food trucks, activation and performance space, washrooms, and ancillary storage for Regina Downtown’s Clean Team.
What are the goals of The Skuare Interim Use Project?
RDBID’s mandate is to make Downtown Regina the place where people want to be and businesses want to invest. To do this, Downtown Regina should strive to become a beautiful, vibrant neighbourhood for our entire community. Downtown must be home to unique experiences, artwork, and thriving businesses, in addition to being well maintained, clean and safe for everyone to enjoy.
The Skuare project will achieve the following goals:
• Strengthen key events and catalyze new activations
• Engage downtown partners to take leadership roles in creating new programs and activations
• Increase maintenance and beautification of Downtown Regina
• Increase economic activity in Downtown Regina
• Increase positive experiences in Downtown Regina
• Positive impact on the perception of safety in Downtown Regina
How does The Skuare project align with the Regina Downtown BID mandate?
The Skuare reflects the purpose of the 2022 – 2024 Regina Downtown Strategic Plan, which states, “We will foster a vibrant and inviting downtown through our core activations. A lively, clean, safe, and well-
maintained community will support positive experiences in the downtown.”
The Project will address multiple goals, including:
• Improve public perception and visitation
• Positive business impacts and downtown experience during core activations
• Increase activity in the Downtown driven by partner-led programming and activations
• A clean, safe and inviting downtown community
