Opening on December 20th, 2016 ~ the Victoria Park skating rink had one of its most successful years to date. Although the beautiful weather played a part in this success, it has been the over 5,000 visitors of all ages, backgrounds and skill sets who truly made this small rink in our Downtown park truly come to life. Whether it was their first time on skates or they were a rink regular, it has been these amazing people (from all over the World) who showcased what makes our City and our community so revered for our caring and compassionate nature. We hope you enjoy these “Rink Stories” and can’t wait to have you join us all again next Winter.

KURTIS BALON: The King of Kindess
For many people, the experience of visiting the Victoria Park skating rink was always a positive and memorable one. This is thanks to the tireless hard work and dedication of our Rink Ambassadors such as Kurtis Balon “The King of Kindness”. Whether he was engaging with at risk youth, sharing a laugh with a rink regular, collecting these “Rink Stories” or tying a small child’s skates – Kurtis ALWAYS did it with a smile on his face. A thoughtful and passionate Ambassador, Kurtis remembered every single visitors name and they (in turn) remembered him. You couldn’t visit the Victoria Park rink without being affected by Kurtis’s infectious attitude and personality.
CBC reporter, Tory Gillis said it best on Twitter, “What a pleasure to come skate here today. Kudod to the staff who remembered all the kids names and their favourite skates!”
